چکیده

We focus on the channel estimation and the decoding of orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) signals in networking scenarios with multipath propagation and strong cochannel interference (CCI). The receiver views the CCI contained in the subchannel signal observations as additional independent Gaussian noise terms with varying variance from subchannel to subchannel as a consequence of the frequency-selectivity of the radio channels. We find that the capacity of OFDM channels with both the gain and the noise variance subject to broad-band fading may significantly exceed the capacity of a comparable OFDM channel with uniform noise power. Linear minimum mean-square error criterion based subchannel gain and noise variance estimators are presented which can exploit this margin, i.e., improve the spectral efficiency. The performance of the estimators is investigated for bit-interleaved coded OFDM systems and Rayleigh fading channels by computer simulations.

Probability of Error of Linearly Modulated Signals with Gaussian Cochannel Interference in Maximally Correlated Rayleigh Fading Channels

We evaluate the probability of error of linearly modulated signals, such as phase-shift keying (PSK) and quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM), in the presence of Gaussian cochannel interference (CCI) and Rayleigh fading channels. Specifically, we assume that the fading channel of the CCI is maximally correlated with the fading channel of the signal of interest (SOI). In practical applications,...

Performance Evaluation of MB-OFDM based UWB System

This paper investigates the Multi-band OFDM (MB-OFDM) based physical (PHY) layer proposal for IEEE 802.15.3a working group on short-range high data-rate Ultra-wide-Band (UWB) communications. An overview of the MB-OFDM PHY layer architecture with its various parameters is presented and the optimal choice of critical parameters is discussed. Next, we derive the theoretical un-coded Bit Error Rate...

Bit Error Probabilities of Ncfsk and Dpsk Signals in Microcellular Mobile Radio Systems

Introduction: To extend the present mediumjlarge cell mobile radio systems [I] towards ubiquitous communications, the microcellular approach looks promising [Z]. A major problem in cellular radio systems, regardless of having micro or mediumflarge cell architecture, is the presence of cochannel interference because of frequency reuse. Extensive studies on the effects of cochannel interference i...

Average Outage Duration of Selection Combining in Presence of Co-channel Interference

This paper deals with the average outage duration (AOD) of selection combining (SC) subject to cochannel interference when a minimum desired signal power requirement is specified for satisfactory reception. More specifically, it presents a quite general approach for systems operating over Rician and/or Nakagami fading environments. The general approach is applied to obtain a generic closed-form...
